Did you know…

…that your skin is your body’s largest organ?  Did you know that everytime your baby/child is touched, Nerve Growth Factor, a hormone in the brain, is produced?   This causes the development of nerve nets in the nervous system and without getting too technical…or technical at all for that matter, just know this is a positive thing!  So, for those of you who are already enrolled in Kindermusik, get out your recordings, put on some Quiet Time music, engage in Intentional Touch, and spend some time bonding with your child (all the while helping those nerve nets to develop!).  For those of you who are not enrolled in Kindermusik (visit www.kindermusikwithkeb.kindermusik.net to enroll), put one some soothing, relaxing music, sit with your child and gently massage their arms, legs, and back and enjoy the relaxation time with your little one.  Whether it lasts fifteen minutes (not likely!) or two minutes, it is still time spent bonding and it is still beneficial to you both!

Saying “I Love You”…

…we all know how important it is to tell our children that we love them.  I think I must tell my son about a million times a day (I wonder how long he’ll go for that…)!  There are many ways of saying “I love you”…sometimes we say those actual words, sometimes we say it with our actions such as…giving a hug or a kiss, or by cuddling our child when they are afraid or sick and sometimes we say it in a song or a dance.  All of these different ways of saying “I love you” help to strengthen the emotional relationship we have with our child.  I’m sure none of the above is news to you, but did you know that…”Research has proven that expressing our emotions is necessary for the stimulation of the limbic system.  The limbic system links the emotional and cognitive process of the brain.  In order to learn and remember something, there must be a sensory input, personal emotional connection and movement.”*  I have to admit…I didn’t even know we had a limbic system!  I think the most important thing to take from this is to make sure you take the time each day to let your child know they are loved…whether you say the words or simply spend some quality time with them…you can never love them too much!
